Sabrina Hafid is an Australian-Algerian interdisciplinary Performance Artist and Educator. Sabrina is passionate about working creatively with communities of culturally and linguistically diverse individuals of all abilities. She aims to promote understanding, self-empowerment and empathy within and between these communities.
Sabrina’s past work includes collaborating with communities to write and perform verbatim theatre shows such as Passing (2018), Car Rides With Ahmed (2021) and Not Far From The Tree (2023). Sabrina has also collaborated with arts companies and communities to create participatory works inviting audience connection and exploration, such as Play (co-produced with Hothouse Company, 2019) and Amateur Hour (2018). Sabrina started at Improve Silence Inc in 2016, where she contributed to Rather Than Later- an initiative to foster intergenerational understanding through artistic practice. Inspired by the long-term social outcomes she saw from this project, Sabrina developed and facilitated "Conversations"- an initiative to connect members of the public with stories of Muslims in Perth. This led to the creation of her first show as lead creative, with consultation of the "Muslim-ish" community in Perth, Passing, Since then she has made a splash in independent theatre in Perth, working with young people from ages 4-17 to create Play (2019), and young people with disabilities to create Car Rides With Ahmed (2021). In 2023, she took a step back to Algeria and created the verbatim theatre piece Not Far From The Tree (2023). In all of Sabrina's works, physical theatre, community connection, and gentle invitations for the audience to play are at the forefront of the experience. She tells stories to ask questions and bring audiences together to find the answers. |
